Following an appointment by the Attorney General, Michael V. Leeman spent more than a decade as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice, serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Florida across both the Tampa and Fort Myers divisions. During that time, he prosecuted complex, high-profile matters, including wiretap drug conspiracies, white-collar fraud, firearms offenses, and tax cases. Before joining the Justice Department, he practiced commercial litigation and represented multiple Fortune 500 companies in high-stakes litigation.

Today, his practice is devoted 100% to criminal defense in federal and state courts throughout Southwest Florida. Having spent over a decade working for the government, Mr. Leeman understands how it investigates, charges, and resolves criminal cases, often allowing him to turn the tables on the government early and hold them to account throughout.

A Southwest Florida native, Mr. Leeman has been a member of The Florida Bar since 2010. In 2026, the judges of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida appointed him to a three-year term on the Fort Myers Division Grievance Committee.

He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida, graduating from law school magna cum laude and ranked number 3 in his class of 349 students. While at UF Law, he served as Articles Editor for the Florida Law Review and as a research assistant to Professor Elizabeth T. Lear. For high achievement on the Florida Bar examination, he was selected by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners to grade essay portions of the exam for future applicants.
